5 North Colonnade is a large office building in Canary Wharf, London, previously occupied by Barclays’ Corporate & Investment Bank. Barclays has since consolidated its investment bank staff into its nearby headquarters at One Churchill Place, as part of a long-term review of its property footprint amid a wider industry shift towards reduced real estate and increased home working following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The main challenge for Integral Cradles was to safely decommission and remove the building’s existing building maintenance unit (BMU) from the roof for efficient recycling, before lifting the new BMU into place. This was achieved using mobile crane hire, drawing on the extensive experience and competence of the Integral Cradles engineering team. Following the development of a detailed lift plan, the works were completed in line with the client’s schedule and cost plan.

Integral Cradles also installed a track-mounted safety line to enable users to access the equipment safely.

The system is now under warrantied maintenance with Integral Cradles’ maintenance partner GIND UK, delivering fully comprehensive BMU maintenance on behalf of the client Canary Wharf Maintenance Limited.
