66 Chiltern Street, London W1

This major project is another collaborative effort between GIND UK and our design/installation partner Integral Cradles.

66 Chiltern Street, which replaces International House, was completed in 2017. The new 15-storey residential building now includes 55 luxury apartments, retail facilities and a new townhouse along Chiltern Street in the heart of Marylebone Village in London.

It was constructed according to the designs of PLP Architecture, features an intricate façade, clad in hand-set terracotta tiles, and is articulated with generous bays and balconies. Providing an access system that respected this fragile terracotta cladding was a challenge that the designers at Integral Cradles relished.

Integral Cradles was appointed by main contractor MACE Construction Ltd on behalf of developer Ronson Capital Partners, to provide a single, static BMU with a reach of 24,400mm, which is parked in a tight roof space, hidden from view. The team took an innovative approach, with extensive use of BIM design.

To achieve 100% façade cover, a satellite cradle was supplied, which can be connected to the main cradle when accessing the recesses in between the balconies.

In addition to the efficient installation of the static BMU, a manual chariot including guide rails were provided, allowing operatives to access a lower, unprotected roof safely.

Since the project completion, the equipment has been maintained, and is currently looked after by the manufacturer’s maintenance agent for the UK, GIND UK.
